"Hops & Grapes" Wine-Beer-Food tasting event a success!

The Second Annual Hops and Grapes food, wine, and beer event was held Thursday, June 11th to rave reviews from over 220 attendees.  We enjoyed fine wines, specialty beers, and the finest cuisine prepared by Martin Vollmer, former owner/chef of Martin's Brandenburg in Waverly Iowa.  Entertainment for the evening was provided by Mick Staebell.

Proceeds raised at the event will directly benefit the Cedar Valley locally.  The Waterloo Rotary Club voted earlier this year and the following three charities were chosen: Northeast Iowa Food Bank, Boy Scouts of America, and The Boys and Girls Club.  All three charities receive a share of the proceeds!

At the event each attendee was allowed to cast a vote for their favorite of the three charities.  Congratulations to the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, they will recieve 50% of the proceeds.  The Boys & Girls Club will get 30% and the Boy Scouts will have 20%.  The final checks will be presented at a future Rotary meeting.

Amber Jedlicka, chair of the Hops & Grapes event, and President Mason Fromm welcomed the directors of the three benefiting charities at our June 15th meeting.

Amber, thank you and the club for going the extra mile to maximize the best possible yield for the charities chosen.  We are humbled and honored to have been chosen two years in a row. - Todd A. Wordel, (center) Scout Executive (CEO), Winnebago Council, Boy Scouts of America

I wanted to take a moment and thank you, on behalf of the kids, for the including the Boys & Girls Club in your support that you give to the community through your event last night.  Very good event!  Thanks for all your organization does for the Club and the community!! - Jason Barta, (left) Executive Director, Boys & Girls Club of Black Hawk County

On behalf of the Northeast Iowa Food Bank, I would like to thank the Downtown Waterloo Rotary Club for sponsoring the Hops & Grapes event and for choosing  the Food Bank as the recipient of funds this year.  At a time when we are seeing an increase in demand, this funding will assist us in raising more food to help people in need in our community.  Your support is greatly appreciated-thank you! - Barbara Prather, (2nd from left) Executive Director, Northeast Iowa Food Bank

UPDATE:
At our October 5 meeting, Program Chair Amber Jedlicka presented checks to the three organizations we selected to support at our spring Hops and Grapes Event.  The three are the Cedar Valley Food Bank, the Boy Scouts and the Boys and Girls Club.
