Alan Malone is the Associate Artistic Director of the Waterloo Community Playhouse/Black Hawk Children’s Theatre. He graduated from the University of Northern Iowa with a bachelor's degree in theater performance. He studied the Meisner Technique in Chicago at the Actors Center, and with Larry Silverberg in New York City, and also studied stage combat at the Actors Gymnasium in Evanston, IL, and at First Frontier in Xenia, OH.

Prior to moving to Iowa, Alan performed and directed with numerous companies in Chicago, including Next Theatre, The Hypocrites, Emerald City Children’s Theatre, and Boxer Rebellion Theatre. He also was an acting apprentice at the Actors Theatre of Louisville, KY. He has worked professionally at the Fireside Dinner Theatre in Wisconsin, the McCarter Theatre Center in Princeton, Blue Jacket in Ohio, New Day Rep in Poughkeepsie, NY, and spent five years touring with Poetry Alive! out of Asheville, North Carolina. In the Cedar Valley, Alan was the drama club director at Hawkeye Community College for several years, directed Amadeus at CFCT, Around the World in 80 Days at Cedar Falls High School, King Lear for WCP,  and is a founding member of Rising Fire Theatre, formed in January of that regular, run-of-the-mill, no big whoop year of 2020!

When not around the theater, Alan can be found camping in any of the beautiful Iowa State Parks, cooking over his firepit, or catching up on the Formula 1 racing season!
