Carignan Elected Club’s
President Elect

In an election which took less than five minutes and would make the most hard-core democrat jealous, members elected Steve Carignan to be president elect effective July 1 and club president in 2009-2010. No super delegates were allowed.

Mason Fromm was elected president July 1 replacing Dr. Art Cox, who becomes immediate past president.

Five new board members were elected by voice vote to two-year terms; they are Brad Smith, Betty Steege, Bill Roths, Shannon Farlow and Amber Jedlicka.

Current board members who will serve one more year are Steve Finegan, Carol Walters, Beth Lee, Todd Wordell and Ken Cutts.

Bill Robert will continue his job as sergeant at arms and Todd Rohlfsen will remain treasurer.

Members going off the board July 1 after two years are Steve Volz, Bob Regenweather, Barb Prather and Marty Stokes.

Attend District Conference,
We’ll Help Pay

The club’s board of directors has cancelled the May 5 meeting so members can attend one or more of the sessions of the district conference May 2 and 3 in Waverly. This is an excellent way to get more of the “big picture” about our service organization and it is a way to support the members of the Waverly club who have worked hard to organize the event.

The two “big name” speakers named so far are:
                            1)   Iowa State Director of Athletics Jamie Pollard Friday noon; and
                            2)
Dr. Simon Estes, world famous bass-baritone, Saturday noon.

Conference registration information was sent to every member last month. If you have lost your form, you may request a new one at District5970Conference@gmail.com.
Club members who register for one or more event at the conference should indicate on their registration form that the Waterloo club will pay the district $15 for each member who attends. Deduct that amount from your payment. If you plan to attend only one of the luncheons, please notify Kelli and she will register and pay for you.

Two Important Training
Sessions This Month

The presidents elect training seminar (PETS) and the district assembly will be held March 29 in Cedar Falls at the PIPAC Center. Designed mainly for presidents elect, board members and club secretaries, it is, however, open to any member who wants to learn how Rotary runs.

District Governor Elect Dr. William Jacobson and new district trainer Lee Clancey, both of Cedar Rapids, will run the session which starts at 8 AM. If you are interested in attending, please notify Kelli for details.

Wear Some Green Today
To Honor the Irish

Rotary has a long tradition in Ireland; the first club there was organized in March, 1911 making it the oldest outside North America.

One of the four founders of Rotary was Irish.

Our district has sent two Ambassadorial Scholars to study in Ireland, Anne West Burmeister from Waverly and Rachel Lyle from Cedar Falls.

Charities Picked for
Wine Tasting

Last Monday we were asked to select three local charities which will split the profits from the upcoming wine tasting event.

You voted for the Boy Scouts, the Food Bank and Peoples Community Health Clinic.
